Bob Dallow was born in Mt. Vernon, NY, and worked his entire 34-year career in education at the Hauppauge, NY school district. He was retired for 29 years in San Clemente, CA. He died with his family by his side on June 18, 2022 following a recent fall at home.
Bob was born Robert C. Dallow, Jr. to Marjorie and Robert Dallow. His brother Richard was born 4 years later. Bob was a devoted and loving husband to Annie Dallow of San Clemente, CA for the last 19 years. They enjoyed retired life together, traveling, laughing and watching thousands of sunsets over the Pacific ocean.
Bob’s second wife, Jo An Dallow, died of Parkinsons complications in 2000. His first marriage in 1958 gave him three daughters, each born a year apart, Linda Uckert of Kiawah, SC, Kathy VanDyke of Islip, NY and Bonnie Griffin of Tempe, AZ. Bob was very proud of his large extended family. He had 4 stepchildren: Kim, Bruce, Troy and Jodi; 12 grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Kyle, Tommy, Paige, Linzy, Brittany, Heidi, TJ, Tucker, Taylor, Kate, and Jack; and 7 great-grand-children: Colette, Boden, Dylan, Isaac, Henry, Zinnia and Robyn; his nephew and niece Scott and Jenn; and his sons-in-law Kevin and Bob.
Bob was a lifelong advocate of the value of a good education. He graduated from Nyack High School, got his BA in English/Education at Albany State University, and at NYU he earned both his Masters in Counseling and his Doctorate in Educational Administration. He began his career in Hauppauge in 1959, teaching English to grades 7, 9 and 11, later serving as Dean of Students in the Middle School, High School Assistant Principal, with a 13-year long tenure as Principal, before retiring as School Superintendent in 1993. He was honored to be named Suffolk County High School Principal of the Year in 1990-91.
Bob cherished his childhood in Nyack, and for the last seven years Bob has been the loyal and dedicated editor of a monthly newsletter he wrote and sent to his fellow alumni of Nyack high school class of 1955. He loved connecting with his longtime friends from childhood, and helping those classmates share stories with each other.
Over the last eight decades there have been a dozen dogs who were loved and spoiled by Bob, including his most recent furry friend, Puck.
Bob was an avid sports fan his entire life, and for years Bob and Annie enjoyed frequently attending Anaheim Ducks games. He rooted for the St. Louis Cardinals, the NY Mets, and the Islanders hockey teams before relocating to southern California and cheering for the home team.
Bob and Annie were active members of the San Diego 56ers, a group of collectors of Department 56 porcelain buildings. They truly enjoyed assembling, and then sharing with others, massive Christmas-time displays in their home. Their “Cityscape” took several weeks to build each year and featured over 200 lit buildings and intricate street scenes replicating New York City, complete with superheroes on the rooftops.
Bob had a wonderful way with words and loved to complete and create crossword puzzles. He was smart and funny and he loved to laugh. He lived a long and happy life, full of love, both given and received. He will be forever missed by his family and friends.
